headcanons.
A compilation of headcanons I have for Sasori, because why not? I may add more in the future. Stay tuned!
- Sasori is a triple A battery (aromantic, asexual, agender (or at least gender apathetic)). He doesn’t really care what pronouns you use, but likes he/they/it best. He doesn’t feel any connection to gender in his puppet body, though he often leans toward feminine expressions.
- That being said, Sasori didn’t keep his no-no parts after turning himself into a puppet. A doll has doll anatomy, after all!
- As a human, his favorite food was anything that’s spicy or crunchy. Growing up in Sunagakure, he had a lot of spice tolerance and was used to foods with extreme seasoning. He also liked dried foods and fruits for a snack. Now, in his puppet body, he doesn’t even remember what any of it tastes like - even the bolder flavors.
- Sort of already canon, but he’s quite a perfectionist - especially when it comes to puppets. Most of it is thanks to childhood trauma, being raised to be an obedient childhood soldier and make strong weapons efficiently. It’s also because of his beliefs around art / pride. Sasori thinks that whatever he creates is an extension of himself, and if something turns out bad or not the way he wants it to, he views it as himself being sloppy.
- Outside of the Akatsuki bases, Sasori has his own little workshop where he works on refining his puppet collection. It’s extremely messy, and only he knows how to maneuver around without getting stabbed by a poison needle or tripping on an unfinished limb. It smells awful - like burnt chemicals and rotting flesh - but obviously, he doesn’t notice.
- Despite the mess, there’s a little bit of organized chaos in some places. Sasori organizes his puppets and puts them into different parts of his base based on different factors, such as where he got the corpse from, how much he would value the puppet / tier of his collection, etc. Sometimes, he changes how things are arranged based on his current mood.
- Sasori believes that he’s doing a good thing by turning people into puppets. He’s preserving and immortalizing them, shaping them into true art that will never wear out.
- What makes this a little more disturbing is Sasori’s relationship with attraction. Sasori doesn’t view humans as beautiful, but rather holding the potential to have beauty if they become puppets.
- That being said, Sasori is extremely vain and believes himself to be the only truly beautiful person in the Akatsuki. He also disagrees with Orochimaru’s means of becoming immortal, and when they were partnered together, they argued like crazy. That damn snake!
- Cannot sing to save his life. Sasori is actually tone-deaf and has no idea.
- Not that he particularly cares - Sasori isn’t one to enjoy music or singing much. Any sort of humming or talking from himself is distracting from his work. If someone is playing a song when he’s focused, he’s going to tell them to turn it off (or turn it off himself with a flick of Hiruko’s tail).
- However, Sasori actually loves music. His mom used to hum tunes to him all the time when he was a wee one, and he would sing back. Sasori’s dad was also very musically talented, and he always told Sasori that when he grew up, he would teach him how to play instruments native to Suna.
- Part of why Sasori thinks art is eternal beauty is actually unrelated to puppets. Some of it actually has to do with photography. After his parents died, he was fixated on the photos of his family sitting in his room. He swore that photographers had a power above shinobi with their ability to turn a fleeting, forgettable memory into an immortalized work of art.
- This actually bled into his work with human puppets. Sasori can’t help himself but to preserve and record the memory of each shinobi he kills, blissfully taking pre and post “surgery” pictures and comparing them with pride and satisfaction. He keeps all of them neatly organized in the dusty corners of his workshops.
- In general, Sasori has lots of information about each and every single one of his puppets. He not only knows their names and the village they hailed from, but personal details such as family members, clothing styles, and non-related special quirks. This is because he gets his spies to steal high-class reports and documents about them, obviously. But he also thinks it’s important to remember these little details as a way to honor their memory.
- Despite his claims, Sasori can still feel things in his puppet body - sort of. He can feel a sort of numb, vague touch when someone comes in contact with him because it wouldn’t be totally smart for a fighter to completely get rid of that sense.
