"fine art is eternal beauty."
Have you heard of the legend of the Red Sand Scorpion? It's one of the old legends of Sunagakure....
Once upon a time, there was a boy with beautiful hair as red as flame and skin as soft as silk. He had the most loving parents, and he played and ate delicious food with them everyday until he had to rest. However, tragedy fell on the family, and the boy's parents died.
Alone in the world, with only his busy grandmother to take care of him, the boy forgot what happiness was. He was so desperate for love, but so scared of losing it. The only solution he could think of was to make beautiful dolls in his parents' images to soothe him. But even the dolls he made could not bring him the affection he so craved...
I'm sure you know how the rest of the story goes. ;) Welcome to The Scorpion's Burrow.
why sasori?
I don't just dedicate fansites / shrines to things I like. They're reserved for things I REALLY LOVE and am obsessed with. So why Sasori?
Well first, let's take it back to the beginning. When I was growing up, Orochimaru and Kabuto were my favorites, so I suppose I already had a soft spot for the mad scientist types of Naruto. During my watch of Shippudden summer 2024, I guess I just naturally gravitated toward this little scorpion.
Part of why I love him so much - asides from him being incredibly handsome - is how well written he is. The more his story unfolds, the more implications there are about who he is and what he has gone through. Even though I hate the fact that we didn't get a lot of content for him, I find it great that there's so much space to imagine his past and what he's put himself through. There's a rabbit hole of questions about how he built his puppet body, how he captured the Third Kazekage, etc, and as someone who craves answers, it was easy for me to get sucked into the rabbit hole of finding explanations.
And on top of that, there's something very real about Sasori that makes him so unique from the rest of the Akatsuki for me. I'm not saying that the rest of the group is written poorly (hell has to freeze over for me to say that!) but as a fellow artist - especially as one who uses art as a form of escape of reality - my heart breaks when I see how his character becomes consumed and obsessed with not just using it as a form of escapism, but a way to rewrite his reality.
changelog.
January 6, 2024 | Finished all the basics! I might add more content later, but for now, I would say the shrine is complete.
November 28, 2024 | Site is live and well right now. Very excited to get this up, as its my first time making a shrine. I know these sites are usually only one or so pages, but I just couldn't help myself! I love Sasori so much that I need multiple pages to express my feelings. Right now I only have a few pages up, but they're working well. I hope to add more in the future.
